Frequently Asked Questions
What if my horse doesn't get on with LiteBite?
Every horse is different, and although most take to LiteBite very quickly, some need a little more time to get used to wearing a grazing muzzle at all.
I recommend introducing LiteBite gradually, starting with short periods and allowing your horse to become comfortable with it.
If you're having difficulties with the fit or your horse's reaction, please contact me. I'm always happy to help.
And if LiteBite simply isn't right for your horse, there's the reassurance of our 30-day guarantee, subject to our returns conditions.
Is LiteBite suitable for horses with laminitis or EMS?
Yes, LiteBite may be a useful part of a carefully managed grazing programme for horses and ponies prone to laminitis or with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).
In fact, LiteBite was developed following my own experience of caring for a pony with laminitis. I wanted a kinder, more comfortable way to help control grass intake.
However, no grazing muzzle can guarantee that grass intake will be safe for every horse. Horses with active laminitis should not be turned out on grass at all unless their vet specifically advises it. It will be great when the time comes to re introduce them to grass, only your vet can say when.
LiteBite should always be used alongside appropriate diet, weight management and veterinary advice.
Can my horse wear LiteBite all day?
LiteBite is designed to make controlled grazing more comfortable, but how long your horse should wear it depends on their individual needs.
Some horses may be comfortable wearing a muzzle for longer periods, while others need more frequent breaks. You will see him just standing around that's maybe when he needs a break.
Always make sure your horse can drink freely, monitor their comfort and check regularly for rubbing or soreness.
Horses also need sufficient forage, opportunities to socialise and time without their muzzle in a suitable grazing-free area. I say "grazing free area" as if you simply take off any muzzle and leave them on grass, they will eat hugely and fast, this is no good. Without the muzzle if they still need to lose weight, they must go on to a grassless area. Difficult I know, perhaps section off a portion of the field with tape and mats if you don't have any hard standing with hay.
For horses with laminitis or EMS, follow your vet's advice on safe grazing and muzzle use.
Can my horse drink when wearing a LiteBite?
LiteBite is designed to allow your horse to drink normally while wearing the muzzle.
The flexible material and open design allow water to drain out freely, it doesn't go soggy.
Always check that your horse can fit the muzzle in its usual water trough or bucket and can drink comfortably from it before leaving it unattended.
How much grass a horse can eat through LiteBite.
LiteBite's specially designed long, narrow grazing slot helps limit the amount of grass your horse can eat while allowing a full natural biting action.
The actual amount eaten will depend on your horse, the length and thickness of the grass, and how long the muzzle is worn, but with the grazing slot they can't twist the grass and grab a bigger bunch as they can with a round hole.
LiteBite is designed to help manage grazing, but no muzzle can guarantee a specified reduction in grass intake.
Why is it so darn expensive?
I know! But don't forget it includes Postage, Packing and Vat. And believe me, if I could make LiteBite cheaper, I would. I'd probably sell a lot more of them.
The main reason is that LiteBite isn't a mass-produced muzzle. It's made from absolute scratch to my own specifications.
Q: Are the actual sheets specially manufactured for LiteBite to your specifications, or do you buy standard sheets that are then precision-cut?
A: They are not production sheets, they are made from powders, heated to high temperature, cooled and washed, left to cure for several days before being rolled and then cut.
Each muzzle is individually precision-cut, rather than being turned out by the thousand on a production line.
And importantly, LiteBite is made in the UK, not manufactured cheaply overseas.
All of this costs more, but it means I can offer something genuinely different from an ordinary grazing muzzle.
I developed LiteBite because I wanted something better for my own pony. And that's still what matters.
Will it rub my horse's face? Big Question
LiteBite is made from soft, flexible strong material and designed to minimise rubbing and pressure around your horse's face by the way it pushes outwards.
Every horse is different, however, and correct fitting is important.
When introducing LiteBite, start with short periods and check your horse's face regularly, particularly around the nose, chin and cheeks.
If you notice rubbing or soreness, remove the muzzle and contact me for fitting advice.
What makes LiteBite different from other grazing muzzles?
LiteBite is soft, flexible and strong, with a unique long Grazing Slot™ that allows your horse to take a more natural, full biting action while helping to limit grass intake.
Unlike rigid basket-style muzzles, or soft but thinner ones, LiteBite is designed with your horse's comfort and freedom of movement in mind, but it is strong too.
It was developed from my own experience of caring for my pony with laminitis.
The Muzzle Looks a Bit Loose. Is This Normal?
Yes.
As the flare out of the muzzle matches the round of your halter noseband, it has plenty of room to move about when eating, it is supposed to push away from your horse's face and move around so they don't feel trapped.
How Do I Put The Muzzle On?
Putting the muzzle onto your horse or attaching it to a head collar is a very simple process. For full details head over to our handy guide.
How Many Muzzles Can I Order?
You can order as many muzzles as you like but to keep things simple we limit you to 5 muzzles per order.
If you are making a large order for our horse muzzles, please contact us first to help process the order. Thank you.
How Heavy are the Muzzles?

These are the weights of each of our muzzles:
Horse Muzzle - Weight: 819 g | 1.81 lb

It Says 'Shipping not available' What Do I Do?
If you get the error message at checkout that says 'Shipping not available' it may be because of 2 reasons:
Reason 1 - We do not ship to your area.
Reason 2 - The amount of items you are trying to order exceeds 2kg. This would count as a bulk order which needs to be fulfilled by us manually.
In both cases please contact us and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
