LiteBite Horse Muzzle from Celie and Skye

This is the story behind the LiteBite grazing muzzle — created after my own pony refused to eat with anything else.

When I realised Skye was getting fat, I knew I needed a grazing muzzle to slim her down and protect her from laminitis.

So I did what most of us do… I bought several.

They’re still sitting in my tack room.

Because the reality?

She wouldn’t eat with any of them.

I rang my vet in a bit of a panic.
“What can I do? She just stands there looking miserable.”

She asked how long I’d been watching her, waiting for her to eat.

“Two hours,” I said.

“What? Leave her for eight — she’ll eat.”

But I couldn’t do it.

She tried… but she just couldn’t get on with them. And I couldn’t stand watching her unhappy.

So what else could I do?

I had nowhere else to put her, and spring grass — and laminitis — terrifies us all.

If I’d had a drawing board, I’d have gone back to it.

So I did the next best thing.

I got hold of a copy of the The Sunday Times (it was huge in those days!) and started experimenting with shapes.

It took ages.

Then the idea came to me — not a small round hole…

…but a grazing slot.

Something that would let her take a more natural bite, instead of tiny frustrating nibbles.

I made a rough version to try.
Paper wasn’t much use, so I found some plastic sheet instead.

One slightly suspicious pony…
…and then…

She ate.

That moment gave me hope.

The material wasn’t right — too stiff, too easy to break — but I knew I was onto something.

After approaching many manufacturers, I finally found a family firm willing to help — advising, prototyping, producing small runs. It had to be food safe, soft and tough.

It took over a year of trial and error.

But we got there.                           (got here actually!  www.litbitehorsemuzzle.com)

A safe, soft, effective muzzle that horses can actually eat with.

And yes… a few more grey hairs along the way.

If you’re in that same place — worried about weight, worried about laminitis, and not wanting your horse standing miserable in a field…

Do take a look.

It was hard won.

There’s a full 30-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it with confidence.

All the best,
Celie & Skye
